Miller Recognized as Wal-Mart District Teacher of the Year
web
posted September 30, 2008
JOHNSTON – On
September 23 a grand
announcement was made at Johnston Elementary School. Mrs. Tyra Miller
was recognized as a Walmart District Teacher of the Year. This honor
came from the nomination made by Mr. Billy Bledsoe, a driver for the
Walmart Company. Mr. Bledsoe recognized Mrs. Miller for her outstanding
educational qualities because she was a teacher of one of his
daughters, and a mentor for his other daughter who now teachers at
Johnston Elementary.
“The program honors teachers who inspire their students to reach the
highest levels in the country today,” said Mark Barnes, Human Resource
Manager for Transportation for the Laurens District. He continued his
presentation speaking to faculty members and students at Johnston
Elementary stating that a teacher has the ability to light a park in a
student that will one day make them a leader in our country.
Mr. Barnes spoke in reference to the nomination of Mrs. Miller, “This
teacher cares about her students, is dedicated to the success of her
students and works hard to see that they are successful. She also cares
about her community and a support of her community.”
The title of District Walmart Teacher of the Year brought a check for
$1,000.00 to Johnston Elementary in honor of Mrs. Miller. Mrs.
Miller was presented with a $100.00 gift card for her to use.
