![]() Johnston Elementary Hosts Information for Hispanic Families web posted December 9, 2006 JOHNSTON – On Monday, November 20, Johnston Elementary School hosted a parent information meeting for Hispanic families in the Johnston community. The purpose of the program was to provide an opportunity for open communication between the school and Hispanic families in their native language. Bridget Clark, Principal; Victoria Caldwell, Edgefield County Schools’ ESOL Coordinator; and Gay Mullinax, school counselor, welcomed the families for an evening of sharing and discussions concerning the programs and policies of Johnston Elementary School. All of the information was translated by Ms. Caldwell, who also translated the questions and answers. A few of the topics covered included testing, grades, and Accelerated Reader. A collection of library books written in Spanish were shown and made available for check-out to the parents. Parents received booklets written in Spanish, which address how to help their children succeed in school in reading, math, and science. They also received a list of ways to encourage and help prepare their children for daily success in school. This event was made possible by a grant awarded to Johnston Elementary School by the National Association of Elementary School Principals. For
