Johnston Police Arrest Accused Molester at Victim's Home

web posted January 8, 2013

JOHNSTON – Johnston Police have arrested a suspected child molester after they discovered he had talked or intimidated his way into the victim's home in late December. The discovery came following another officer working a case regarding complaints at a local bank by Larry C. Robinson, 59, about how much money was in his account that he recently opened. The address he used to open the account was the victim's address.

Johnston Police Officers paid a visit to the victim's home and spoke with her mother on the porch. The woman told officers that Robinson did come to the home in the past few days and that Robinson made threats of violence in order to gain entry. Officers were invited into the home and were told that Robinson was inside. After she looked in the rooms she stated that he left while she was talking to the officers outside.

One of the officer's noticed that the deadbolt to the back door was locked and, being that Robinson did not have a key to the house, he could not have left. Shortly after Robinson was found hiding under a bed in one of the rooms.

He was taken into custody and transported to the Edgefield County Detention Center and booked on a charge of simple possession of marijuana until warrants could be obtained for other charges. The additional charges include intimidation of a witness and breach of peace for ignoring a bond condition to have no contact with the victim or the family.

Robinson was arrested in August of last year for a lewd act on a minor under the age of 16. He was released on over $20,000 in bonds in November, according to online court records. Robinson is currently being held on over $5,000 in cash bonds.

The Department of Social Services removed the victim and siblings from the home and placed them elsewhere for their safety.

A search of online court records also shows Robinson is facing a charge of threatening the life of a public employee. He has previous convictions for pedestrian drunkenness and assault.
