Shots Fired after Fight at Johnston Bar
web posted January 15, 2013
JOHNSTON – A fight that broke out inside
of John's Club at 320 Addison Street in Johnston ended with at least
two people being injured followed by shots fired nearby around 1 am
Sunday. Stray bullets hit a woman's Walker Street home breaking out a
window and a glass door.
One of the bullets was found inside the home
after it passed through the door, then a wall, before coming to rest in
another doorjamb. The homeowner was in her bedroom at the time of the
shooting incident. No one was struck by any of the bullets fired.
According to incident reports released Monday morning, an Edgefield man
was at John's Club with his brother when a fight broke out at the back
of the club. Several men were attacking his brother with fists, feet,
pool sticks and one or two using pistols during the assault. The man
and others were able to get his brother out of the club and that took
the fight outside.
After one of the brothers was being placed in a vehicle to transport
him to the hospital, the other brother walked to a nearby home and was
approached by the same suspects and at one point was pistol whipped
causing him to fall to the ground and suffered several injuries needing
stitches.
It was then several shots rang out. Witnesses said the shooter was
trying to hit one of the two brothers that were attacked inside and
outside of the bar. Witnesses were able to identify the shooter and
others involved in the melee, though no arrests have been made at this
time.
A Johnston Police Officer was investigating the fight at John's Club
when he reported shots being fired nearby. Another officer
investigating the report of bullets fired into the Walker Street home
noted finding
three spent 9 mm shell casing near the home. It is believed the
recovered bullet is a 9 mm as well.
It is unknown how many of the rounds hit the home, though incident
reports seem to indicate two rounds may have entered the home causing
at least $300 in damages.
The cases remain under active investigation and arrests are expected.
John's Club has a long history of fights and violent outbreaks with
Johnston Police.
