Merriwether Man Recovering from Weekend Stabbing in Johnston
web posted January 16, 2013
JOHNSTON – A Johnston man remains
behind
bars and a Merriwether man is recovering after being stabbed in an
altercation in Johnston Saturday afternoon. Lester Williams, 55, of
Sandra Drive, was arrested a short time after the stabbing making his
getaway on a bicycle. Williams is accused of coming to a home on the
1000 block of Columbia Road uninvited and began arguing with three men
at the home just before he stabbed one of the men, wounding him
seriously.
The 35-year-old Merriwether man was taken to the Trauma Center in
Augusta by ambulance for treatment of his wounds. Witnesses told
Sheriff's Deputies that Williams was armed with a knife in one hand and
a razor in the other hand when the attack took place. There have been
no updates on the victim's condition.
No weapons were recovered at the time of Williams' arrest.
The injuries received by the victim were described as "lacerations to
the torso," according to an incident report released Tuesday.
Williams has been charged with assault and battery of a high and
aggravated nature and is currently being held on a $10,000 cash bond
requirement. According to court records Williams has requested a
preliminary hearing on the charge.
Williams is more than familiar to local law enforcement agencies.
According to a search of county court records Williams has been
arrested for dozens of charges dating back to 1985 that range from
disorderly conduct, criminal domestic violence, assault and battery of
a high and aggravated nature (4 previous), resisting arrest, burglary,
grand larceny, house breaking, drugs, escape or attempted escape,
trespassing and assault.
