Man eludes police in foot chase web posted January 17, 2007 JOHNSTON – A Johnston Police Officer on regular patrol spotted a suspicious car parked behind a Johnston convenience store on Lee Street around 10:20pm Sunday night. The officer, along with two Sheriff’s Deputies approached the man standing beside the car at the back of the building. The Johnston officer recognized the man and asked him to speak to them, but he began walking away. When the officer told him to stop so they could talk with him he turned and ran. The officers gave chase as the man ran down Highway 121 and then turned left towards Academy Street where the officers lost visual contact with the man. Deputies and Johnston Police searched the area for the man with no success. Back at the Car one deputy looked in through the window and saw what appeared to be a marijuana cigarette on the floorboard. The Sheriff’s drug dog was used to do an exterior search of the car and the dog indicated on several locations of the car. As police searched the car they found a set of scales in the glove box that contained a white powder residue on the top. The car was towed and is being held by police until the man makes contact with the Johnston Police Department. A warrant for simple possession is being sought against The Johnston man. For
