Police radio lost in foot chase
web posted January 21, 2006

JOHNSTON – Johnston Police Officer John Brown, who chased down and apprehended Charlie Leroy Maxfield Jr., 23, of Hayes Drive, North Augusta after a foot chase from a traffic stop, lost his police radio in the process. The traffic stop yielded the arrests of Mr. Maxfield, who bolted from the trucks at the time of the stop, for no driver's license and having an open container in the vehicle and Fredrick Dekonte Robinson, 22, of Salon Road for possession of cocaine, crack cocaine with intent to distribute, and marijuana.

Officers of the Johnston Police Department searched the area over the next two days and found nothing. Sources in law enforcement said the batteries would be dying by now and the radio would be useless to anyone that found it. The charger for the battery is not available in the general market.

The location of the foot chase took place between the 300 block of Addison Street and went through a wooded area towards Railroad Avenue in Johnston. Anyone finding a radio in the area is asked to contact the Sheriff’s Office at 637-5337 or you can call 911. You need not to reveal your identity in the call.
