 Animal cruelty case investigated web posted January 29, 2008 JOHNSTON – The Edgefield County Sheriff’s Animal Control is investigating an animal cruelty case in Johnston that left a female pit bull and all of her puppies dead. Two male dogs in the yard, a police report stated, “are in bad shape.” A neighbor of the woman that owned the dogs said the woman reportedly “up and left” the home and was now living at another nearby home. When she returned to the area the neighbor confronted her about the dogs and, “she just drove on down the road and left”. The man called the Johnston Police on Saturday and they arrived to find the dead female pit bull chained and the dead puppies. The other two males were also said to be chained in the back yard. There was no mention as to if food and water was within the reach of the dogs in police reports. The case has been turned over for further investigation by Animal Control. The identity of the woman was provided to police. ©
