Johnston Police, SWAT Team take suspected drug dealer into custody web posted February 3, 2007 JOHNSTON – Johnston
Police, Edgefield County Sheriff’s Narcotics
Investigators, and the Sheriff’s SWAT Team conducted another raid in
Johnston early Friday at the home of yet another alleged drug dealer
and recovered a “substantial” amount of cocaine during the raid.
Johnston Police Chief Chris Aston said his department is “cracking
down” on drug dealers in the town adding, “If you come to Johnston to
deal
drugs, you will go to jail.”Just before 5am Friday morning Johnston Police, Narcotics Investigators, and the Sheriff’s SWAT Team made entry at the home located at 201 McQueen Street in Johnston where Cedric Washington, 25, was taken into custody without incident on outstanding warrants and is facing additional charges stemming from the raid. Chief Aston said his department and Sheriff’s Narcotics Investigators have been working on several cases and this arrest marks the most recent in over a half a dozen that have taken place over the past few weeks. “It takes time to make these types of cases,” Chief Aston said adding that he applauds the hard work of the Sheriff’s Office and the narcotics investigators that help his department in investigating and conducting the raids. “They work very hard and I can’t thank them enough,” he said. Mr. Washington is being held at the Edgefield County Detention Center on several charges including three counts of distribution of crack cocaine in the proximity of a school or park, two counts of distribution or manufacture of crack cocaine, third offense, and distribution or manufacture of crack cocaine with the intent to distribute, also a third offense. “He’ll (Washington) will be going away for a long time,” Chief Aston said. EdgefieldDaily.com will have a follow up story on Monday detailing some of the most recent raids and Chief Aston’s stepped up efforts to curtail drug sales and use in the town. For
