Burglars Target Hunting Camp, Rob Three Campers

web posted February 5, 2014

JOHNSTON An Edgefield County Sheriff's Deputy on patrol and doing property checks along Long Cane Road found a camper at a local hunting camp with the door open and called for back up and an investigator. A short time later it was found that multiple campers parked at the location had been targeted by burglars.

The campers, who rent the spots long-term, we notified of the burglaries by the property owner. Three of the camper owners arrived later in the day to give a list of stolen items and damages done to the campers.

According to a report released on Tuesday, the items stolen were a 19-inch Vizio TV and remote and various tools from one camper with $250 in damages to the door. A second camper reported a 32-inch flat screen TV, a toolbox, binoculars, first aid kit, a lantern and Rocky boots, valued at $1,000. The third owner reported "various" items stolen with a value of around $500 and $300 in damages to the door and a window.

Evidence was collected from the scene and the case is under active investigation.

The burglaries are believed to have taken place between January 20 and January 30.
