Johnston Closes John's Club Due to Violence
web posted February 14, 2013
JOHNSTON – Following a hearing
held by the
Johnston Town Council Monday evening, the embattled John's Club is
closed for good. It was the second time the club was closed down
following outbreaks of violence. After the last incident the club was
allowed to reopen following another similar hearing to reinstate the
business license. Not long afterward, another outbreak took place with
5 people being charged with felonies, one being charged with attempted
murder in October of 2012.
However, it was not until a wild shooting incident occurred in January
that Johnston Police Chief pulled the license again.
In that incident a fight broke out in which at least two people were
injured. Shortly thereafter shots rand out with stray bullets entering
a nearby elderly woman's home. Fortunately no one was injured.
After all parties had their say, the Johnston Town Council voted 4-2 in
favor of shutting the club down and revoking the license.
Johnston Police Chief Chris Aston said previously that the club
presents dangerous situations for his officers responding to calls at
the make-shift club. He presented his side of the story at the hearing
favoring the club being shut down.
It does not stop the owner from selling the property and a new owner
trying to open another club at the same location in the future.
However, the history of the location would play into a request to
reopen the club during the license application process.
