One Arrested in Dollar General Robbery
web posted February 19, 2013
JOHNSTON – Johnston Police have
charged
one of the men they say was involved in the robbery of the Johnston
Dollar General on January 19. Blake Marcell Clark, 24, was arrested on
Sunday in Batesburg following a "run-in" with police. He was identified
and then arrested for the outstanding warrants issued by Johnston
Police. "He's been hiding around town," Johnston Police Chief Chris
Aston said. "I guess his luck finally ran out."
Clark has been charged with robbery, burglary in the second degree, and
conspiracy and is currently being held at the Edgefield County
Detention Center awaiting a Circuit Court bond hearing on the felony
charges.
As Edgefield
Daily reported shortly after the crime, two men - one now
identified as Clark - entered the Dollar General around 9:30 pm just
before closing rushing the cashier and pushed him aside and then stole
the money in the register. They then ran from the scene. The cashier
followed behind the two robbers then returned and reported the crime to
the manager.
Clark was identified during the ensuing investigation and warrants for
his arrest were issued. More than once police attempted to arrest him
after he was spotted by police or reported by citizens seeing him on
the street. Clark would run and at least one manhunt followed one
sighting.
Chief Aston said they have not identified the second suspect in the
robbery at this time. However, they have identified a fellow
conspirator in the crime and charges are pending. His name is not being
released and he is cooperating with the investigation and identified
Clark as the one who reportedly set up the robbery.
Formal charges have not been filed on the third suspect and could range
from conspiracy, accessory prior to or after the fact, obstruction of
justice, or to the robbery itself. "We haven't decided what charge we
will file," Aston said.
