Armed Robbery Suspect Returned to Face Charges a Year Later
web posted February 19, 2013
JOHNSTON – Nearly a year after
the crime,
Edward Terrell Chandler Jr., 25, is sitting in the Edgefield County
Detention Center facing multiple felony charges stemming from an armed
robbery of an elderly Johnston man on February 25, 2012. Chandler was
taken into custody in Hogansville, Georgia, a few days later following
a carjacking there. He was extradited and brought to Edgefield County
last week by Johnston Police.
Chandler has been charged with burglary in the first degree, assault
and battery of a high and aggravated nature, kidnapping, robbery and
possession of weapon during commission of a violent crime.
He is awaiting a bond hearing by a Circuit Court
judge.
His co-defendant, Willie Dwayne Dublin,
28, was arrested on the same
day last year by Johnston Police and is out of jail on a total of
$100,000 in bonds for similar charges.
Both are accused of robbing a Roland Avenue man at gun point during a
home invasion and pistol whipping him while demanding $1,000 in cash.
After stealing $200 out of his wallet and a pistol from his bedroom,
they continued to demand a full $1,000. That's when the man said he
would take them to an ATM to get the rest of the money.
Once outside the man broke free and began yelling for help as Chandler
and Dublin ran away. He was helped by a neighbor who called 911 and
relayed information to dispatchers as Johnston and Edgefield Police, as
well as Sheriff's Deputies converged on the area in an effort to
capture the suspects.
Chandler was identified within hours of the crime and warrants for his
arrest were issued.
Both men have an extensive criminal history, according to online court
records.
