Five Arrested at Gambling House

web posted March 1, 2014

JOHNSTON The Edgefield County Sheriff's Office busted an illegal video poker house on Tanglewood Drive near Johnston Thursday afternoon and took five people into custody. The bust followed an investigation launched much earlier. Also arrested at the location was 47-year-old Alexander Morgan lll, a sex offender who failed to register his being in Edgefield County for over two years. This is his third offense and faces a mandatory three to five years in prison if convicted.

Once deputies and investigators entered the building they found four operational video poker machines that were in use. Those found at the location were then taken into custody.

Charged with a single count each of gabling, according to records, are Cathy Delores Banham, 51, Irene Coleman Gantt, 68, Barbara Etheredge, 70, and Major Lee West, 68. Most were said to be from Saluda County.

All of the machines were seized as well as the money inside.

The investigation is ongoing and more information will be made available when an incident report is released.
