Police called when customer walks out with moneybag
web
posted March 10, 2009
JOHNSTON – Johnston Police were called to
the Goodfella’s Laundry on Lee Street when a worker was removing coins
from
the machines when four individuals walked and began doing laundry. When
the worker turned his back, he heard the sound of the moneybag being
picked up and saw the four walking out of the business.
One man was seen leaving the scene in a silver convertible Chrysler
Seabring and the other man and the two females were walking down the
street as the man called 911 to report the theft.
Once the officer arrived at the location and was gathering the
information, the two females returned and asked where their clothes
were. When the officer began to question them one refused to answer any
questions and the second gave the officer a name she later admitted was
false.
The two were detained and taken to the Johnston Police Department for
questioning and when they arrived and got out of the car one fled on
foot. The second woman was questioned but was said to be uncooperative
and was released.
The case is currently under investigation. The two men and two women
were together when they arrived and it is unknown which of the four
allegedly took the moneybag with an undisclosed amount of money inside.
Police are reviewing video surveillance footage recorded at the
business.
