Sawyer Hooks his Audience

web posted March 11, 2014

JOHNSTON – Coach Sawyer is as competitive in a boat as he is on the field. The Strom Thurmond Fishing Team has guest speakers for their meetings and the team recently learned how to catch more fish from one of the best fishermen in our area. Coach Sawyer started his presentation to the team by getting the fishermen to “think like a fish.”

Sawyer also covered the importance of lure colors, retrieval speed, hook preparation and lake bottoms.  “Coach Sawyer will continue presenting at our meetings throughout the spring” stated Mr. Miller (club sponsor). “It is a great gesture on Coach Sawyer’s part to give back to our community for a sport he dearly loves.”

The Fishing Team tournament schedule for the spring includes Lake Murray on March 22, local ponds on April 10, Clarks Hill on April 27, and Lake Murray on May 10.  The teams’ top six fishermen will go to the State Tournament at Lake Murray on May 17.

The fishing team would like to thank Bass Pro Shops, American Forest Management, Morris Plumbing, Wild Turkey Federation, Sweetwater Baptist Church, Kendrick’s Body shop, Edgefield Fuel and Convenience, Mike’s Pressure Washing, and Old McDonald Fish Camp for their sponsorships of the team. The team still needs several boat captains. The fishing team is also looking for a scale at a reasonable price. If you can help, please call David Miller at 864-980-5869.
