Johnston man arrested on felony assault charge after bar fight

web posted March 12, 2010
JOHNSTON – A Johnston man has been arrested for assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature after a fight at the Johnston Sports Bar Wednesday night around 10 pm. Johnston Police and Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the bar but the suspect, later identified as Carroll Mark Parkman, 35, had left the scene.

According to official report released on Thursday, Parkman is accused of attacking another man unprovoked by striking him in the back of the head, causing a large laceration. He is then accused of continuing to hit the victim after he fell to the ground.

The victim was found to have cuts and bruising to his head, face, and one eye. He refused medical attention by EMS and opted to be taken to the hospital by a friend.

Parkman was located later at a home on Hardy Place Road and placed under arrest. Parkman is reported to have said the victim was talking about his family and “couldn’t take it anymore” and attacked the man from behind. There has been ill feelings between the two men “for several years”, according to the report.

Mr. Parkman was released on bond Thursday.  The charge is a felony and will be on docket in the next session of General Sessions court.
