Johnston Oyster Roast to Feature Local Entertainer
web
posted March 17, 2009
JOHNSTON – Trenton musician Joel Summer
and friends will play easy listening blues-rock music at the Johnston
Oyster Roast, March 28, from 1 until 4pm on Mims Street beside Sawyer’s
Alley. Summer is the principal singer-songwriter for the group. His
song, “Filthy Mouth” is the title song of the new CD the band has
recorded, tracks from which the group will play live at the event.
Demos of the CD, which may someday be valuable collectors’ items, will
be available for sale.
Sawyer’s Alley will once again offer up the delicious chili that was
such a hit at the Edgefield Oyster Roast in February. Butler Derrick
will serve up the fresh, wet and salty, unshucked oysters roasted by
the Jerry Morgan family, who will deliver them from the coast.
Soft drinks for $1 will be available for the kids, and beer and wine
can be purchased separately from Murphy’s Irish Pub.
Tickets for the Oyster Roast are available for $15 from Paperwhites in
Edgefield and from Sawyer’s Alley, Murphy’s Irish Pub and the Chamber
of Commerce in Johsnton, or from any member of ERA. Patrons are urged
to get their tickets in advance, so that organizers will know how many
happy, hungry people to expect.
Proceeds go to the purchase of the old Edgefield Advertiser Building,
which Edgefield Regional Arts plans to convert into a theatre and arts
and cultural center, providing live theatre, movies, dance recitals,
choral contests, turkey call competitions, school plays, graduations,
meetings large and small, and other community activities to enhance the
exciting growth and development of Edgefield County.
Edgefield Regional Arts (ERA) is an association of more than 50 artists
and writers in and around Edgefield, South Carolina, which sponsors art
exhibits, literary events, and community activities for the benefit of
its members and the public. Any artist interested in joining ERA
may contact Pamela Urban-Moore at 803-637-6763.
