JOHNSTON – A collision on Long Cane Road just after 10 pm Thursday night sent emergency workers scrambling to care for over a dozen injured people in the crash. The original call of the crash reported four vehicles involved, however; two of the vehicles were passerby’s that stopped to render aid. According to information gathered on Friday, the car involved in the crash hit a deer that went under the car. That caused the driver to loose control and sideswiped a church van belonging to Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Johnston.

At least thirteen people were transported from the crash scene with three persons reported in critical condition including an 11 year old and a 45 year old woman reportedly ejected from the overturned van.

Nine of those injured were released from area hospitals by Friday and three remained in critical condition.

Every available ambulance in Edgefield County was summoned to the scene in addition to Aiken County and Saluda County EMS workers.

Three persons were airlifted from the crash sight sending at least one person to the MCG Trauma Unit and others to a hospital in Columbia. Other patients were transported by ambulance.

Reportedly there will be no charges filed in the crash.
