Walker Street scene of reported Sunday shooting
web
posted March 24, 2010
JOHNSTON – Johnston Police are still
investigating a report of a shooting that allegedly took place Sunday
afternoon on Walker Street. Johnston Police were called to the reported
shooting at 1:48 pm and an ambulance was dispatched to the scene. Once
officers arrived they could not find a victim and found it difficult to
obtain information on the incident. Early information was the man was
bleeding from the face, but it was unknown if he was shot or possibly
hit with a brick.
An incident report released on Tuesday stated, “No one saw a thing,”
regarding several people that were standing around the scene when
police arrived.
A Walker Street man told police that he was asleep in his bed when he
heard a lot of noise outside and a man burst through his front door
saying he had been shot and was bleeding from his face. The man
continued to run out the back door with “around five other black males
chasing him”.
According to the report, the fight may have been about some “bad drugs”
that were sold to someone.
It was not the first report of problems for the day. Around 2 am Sunday
morning an officer on foot patrol on Calhoun Street witnessed a dark
colored SUV and a white sedan pull into a parking lot and two black
males jumped out of the vehicles and charged a small group of people.
The officer jumped in his patrol car and headed for the scene but the
two vehicles departed before his arrival.
According to a witness the men jumped out and hit the victim in the
head with a silver handgun causing a laceration. When questioned by
officers, the victim stated “nothing happened to his head” and that he
“did not want to press any charges”.
Moments later Johnston Police were called to the 300 block of Walker
Street to a report of a dark SUV at the location with at least two
black males having a gun. When the officers arrived on the scene the
SUV was gone and individuals in the area did not see or hear anything.
Both cases remain active, reports stated.
