Wanted man arrested in Edgefield web posted March 28, 2007 JOHNSTON – Johnston Police were searching for a wanted man in connection to a driver that fled from a license check on Saturday night. Dexter Xavier Williams, 19, of the 100 block of Edgewood Road, Edgefield is wanted on charges of driving under suspension, fail to stop for a blue light and siren, resisting arrest, and grand larceny for allegedly driving a stolen car during the pursuit. “I believe there may be a charge (on Mr. Williams) of reckless driving too,” Johnston Police Chief Chris Aston said. According to a six-page incident report by Johnston Police, as Mr. Williams approached the license check at the intersection of Slide Hill Road and Edisto Street, he stopped the car he was driving and began backing up then fleeing the scene. A Johnston Police Officer gave pursuit. At one point in the chase Mr. Williams “began reaching a very high rate of speed,” reports state. Due to public safety concerns the chase was terminated and officers began patrolling the area. A short time later 911 operators received a call of two suspicious men in the back of a home on Sandra Drive. Officers responded to the scene and ordered Mr. Williams to stop and that he was under arrest. Mr. Williams, police say, then ran and eluded arrest after a foot chase. During the writing of this story Edgefield Police Officers arrested Mr. Williams just before 8 pm Tuesday night. He was transported to the Edgefield County Detention Center awaiting the service of outstanding warrants. Additional charges may be pending including giving false information to police. For
