Fort Gordon Band Headlines Entertainment at this year’s Johnston Peach Blossom Festival

JOHNSTON – Peach Blossom Festival entertainment for the day is now set, with the U.S. Army Signal Corps Band from Fort Gordon headlining the May 1 event. The United States Army Signal Corps Band serves as a musical outreach for United States Army Signal Center, headquartered at Fort Gordon in Augusta, Georgia. The 30-member ensemble performs numerous concerts for the Central Savannah River Area as well as abroad.

The day’s entertainment begins after a 10 a.m. welcome by the Johnston Mayor.  Then, the Johnston Elementary School Chorus will lead off the day’s entertainment.  At 10:30 a.m. the traditional parade begins, which will also include the Fort Gordon Band. (The parade route is through downtown Johnston.)  Once the parade ends, the Fort Gordon Band is set to play for patrons from approximately 11:05 a.m.-11:30 a.m.

The rest of the entertainment for the day includes American Kemtaedo Center (karate) at 11:30 a.m., followed by Southern Conduct, Mage Invasion, Tayk, Tamara Riley, Youth for Christ Community Choir, and Trolley Line Brass Quartet.
The entertainment is free and concludes about 4 p.m.

Last year, thousands of patrons descended on Johnston to enjoy the day set aside to honor the peach industry, which has been so important in the development of the area.  Each year, the Town goes all out with the Festival to remind citizens about the peach industry and to open its arms to visitors.

The popular Festival is taking applications for individuals, organizations or businesses interested in being a part of event in the areas of:

The Festival also has a Friday, April 30, street dance in downtown Johnston, designed especially for families.  The street dance begins at 8 p.m. and ends at 11 p.m., with music by provide by Marion Turner.

On the evening of May 1, the Festival concludes with a popular dance for 21 year olds and up, featuring nationally known radio personally John Hook.  This year’s Dance Sponsors are Andy and Donna Livingston, Monks Corner, Titan Farms and Yonce Ford-Mercury.

This year’s Festival Corporate Sponsors are Edgefield County Hospital, First Citizens Bank, IGA, SCE&G and SRP Federal Credit Union.
