Peach Blossom Festival draws large crowd in spite of cold temps

JOHNSTON – The Johnston Jaycees Peach Blossom Festival drew a large crowd in spite of cold temperatures and windy conditions on Saturday. After an overnight low of around 30 degrees across the county temperatures were still in the high 30’s as organizers began the work of preparing for the parade and vendors set up shop for the day’s events. By the 11am parade temperatures were just breaking into the low 40’s with 15 to 20 mile an hour winds the wind-chill dropped into the low 30’s. The Grand Marshall, Dr. Sam Garrison, lead off the parade just behind the Jaycees Banner.

But the cold temperatures did not lower the enthusiasm of those participating or attending the festivities as the crowds continued to grow throughout the day. Children enjoyed the carnival rides and parents shopped the vendors selling their wares along Calhoun Street.

Several performers also provided entertainment in front of the grand stand located at the intersection of Calhoun and Lee Streets throughout the day. The festival was a big success and the Jaycees and the Town of Johnston did a wonderful job of making the days enjoyable for families and visitors from outlying areas.
