Mother, Daughter Charged with Lynching in Pine Ridge CC Attack

web posted April 9, 2014

JOHNSTON A fight that broke out in the kitchen area of the Pine Ridge Country Club was broken up by other kitchen staff, but not before Edgefield County Sheriff's Deputies could be called to the scene. Once the victim of the attack went outside, the mother and daughter team attacked again, leading to their arrest and firing.

The fight between the 24-year-old female victim started after an argument inside the clubhouse when 21-year-old Amber Lee Coursey (left) is accused of slapping the other woman before other workers intervened.

As the victim was walking to her car, Coursey and her mother, 40-year-old Shannon Lee Coursey, were reported by two witnesses attacking the woman in the parking lot. Both left the scene before deputies arrived. The victim did sustain injuries in the second attack.

After taking statements and speaking with all parties involved, Coursey and her mother were taken into custody and charged with lynching (assault by mob with injuries). According to a incident report, the Coursey's were terminated following the initial attack and prior to their arrests.

Both were released on $2,000 bonds and face felony lynching charges in General Sessions Court. No court date was available. They will have to make a "first appearance" in General Sessions Court in August.
