Johnston Man Arrested for Touching Teenage Girl

web posted April 17, 2014

JOHNSTON Johnston Police were called to a fight in progress Tuesday afternoon and discovered the root of the confrontation was a 47-year-old man touching a teenage girl's body parts, then telling her not to tell her grandmother. The girl later told, and the girl's mother told her father.

Police spoke to the girl who stated that her grandmother told her to sit outside to wait until the grandmother's friend arrived. When he arrived, Steven Williams, of Aiken Avenue, spoke to the girl and she spoke back. That's when Williams is accused of reaching down and grabbing her buttocks and also touching her breasts telling her, "you're a pretty girl", and instructed her, "don't tell your grandmother".

She ran to her room to get away from the man and didn't think her grandmother would believe her if she told. She did tell a friend and her cousin, then later her mother.

Officers spoke to Williams who stated he did talk to the girl and gave her a hug, but nothing more. He was arrested and booked into custody on charges of assault and battery in the third degree and assault and battery in the second degree (felony). He was released on a total of $4,092 in bonds on Wednesday.

The original booking sheet listed the second charge as criminal sexual conduct in the third degree. That was since changed as is reflected in the corrected copy above.
