One car crash blocks traffic on Hyw 121, sends one to MCG

web posted April 24, 2007
JOHNSTON – Just before 2 pm Monday the Johnston Fire Department, Sheriff’s Deputies, and EMS were summoned to a single car crash on Highway 121 just south of Boughtknight’s Crossroads. A 62-year-old woman lost control of her PT Cruiser and left the southbound lane before striking several pine trees and rolling at least once. The woman was trapped in the car as emergency personnel arrived on the scene.

As First Responders and EMS personnel comforted and evaluated the woman firefighters began cutting trees next to the car to allow the woman to be extracted. Once access to the car was available the woman was extricated and immobilized before being placed on a stretcher and transported to MCG for treatment.

Her injuries were not considered to be life threatening.

The Highway Patrol arrived and began investigating the crash as deputies and Johnston Police assisted by directing traffic which was blocked for about half an hour on the highway.

After clearing the scene the roadway was reopened to normal traffic.
