Stereo thefts from cars reported in Johnston web posted April 24, 2007 JOHNSTON – Two Johnston residents reported their cars being broken into and stereo equipment being stolen Sunday. The first call came in just after 3:30 pm on Addison Street. In that case the resident told Johnston Police that he walked outside and noticed a window to his car was busted out and he went to investigate. When he looked he noticed his stereo and speakers were gone. The stereo and speakers were described as an Alpine CD player, Boss 800 watt amp, and two speakers enclosed in black boxes with plexiglass. The lock to the rear hatch had also been removed and was lying on the back of the car. Police processed the car and were able to recover some evidence. The missing items were listed with a value of $500. There was no estimate for the damage done to the vehicle. A second report of a similar theft came in around 9:30 pm on Edisto Street when a man said sometime during the day someone had broken a window in his car and stole the CD player. The man also told Johnston Police that he also discovered a brick thrown through a window of his house. The stereo was valued at $250 and the damage to the window was estimated at $150. Both cases are currently under investigation. There have been other similar cases that have been reported to police recently. For
