![]() Johnston club continues to be focal point of police complaints web posted Apri 25, 2006 JOHNSTON – The Shack, a popular nightclub in Johnston, was the sight of more problems this weekend. On Friday a Johnston woman called the Johnston Police Department to complain that the club was allowing her underage children into the club. On Saturday, police had to resort to clearing the club with pepper spray to break up a fight. The woman called to say that she works at night and her children will leave and go to The Shack, she claims, and are allowed to enter. The report was taken and passed on to the night shift officers in hopes of ending the underage persons being in the club. On Saturday night the Johnston Police were called again in reference to the club. The 2:40 am call came in stating there were several fights going inside the club. The first Johnston Officer arrived just moments later but waited for a back up unit to arrive due to the “extremely large crowd inside”. Once additional units arrived Police entered the building a found a large crowd of people fighting and resorted to releasing three cans of Cap Stun Pepper spray. With everyone outside police ordered everyone to go home. While on the scene, dispatchers notified officers of more fights at the Shell Station. When police arrived, the crowd of people ran off. The Shack has been a problem for Johnston Police for some time. In early April, Police responded to five reports over a single weekend, which resulted in two arrests. One arrest was for a minor in possession of alcohol. In February, two Police Officers were assaulted at the club while trying to break up fights. Last month the Town of Johnston began work on an ordinance to close clubs and similar type businesses at a “decent hour”. For
