![]() Monday morning manhunt leads to felony charges web posted Apri 27, 2006 JOHNSTON – A domestic call late Sunday night spilled over into Monday morning. The initial call came in to dispatchers as a domestic violence call and ended with Jason Anthony Highley, 26, of Batesburg, being charged with assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature and first-degree burglary after being pursued by bloodhounds. The first call came in around 10:30 pm Sunday night when a woman claimed her boyfriend, Mr. Highley, grabbed her by the neck and pushed her in her chest. He fled the home before police arrived. The report was taken and the woman was advised on obtaining a warrant for Mr. Higley’s arrest. Officers patrolled the area but were unable to locate Mr. Highley. Just before midnight another call came in from the same woman saying Mr. Highley was, “kicking (the) door down”. Hearing the sirens Mr. Highley ran from the area and was gone when police arrived. With a fresh scene, a call was placed to bring in the bloodhounds and Johnston Police, Edgefield County Sheriff’s Deputies, and the South Carolina Highway Patrol set up a perimeter in the area. The bloodhounds arrived a short time later and were on Mr. Highley’s trail. Mr. Highley was spotted a short time later trying to break through the perimeter police set up and apprehended. The charges of assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature and burglary in the first degree, if convicted, the assault carries a maximum not more than ten years and first degree burglary carries a minimum of fifteen years to life. Mr. Highley was released Tuesday on a $5,000 surety bond. For
