California Woman in Trench Coat Removed From Gov. Haley Visit to Johnston

web posted May 6, 2014

JOHNSTON South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley visited the Big Smiles Farm owned by Sonny Yonce in a closed media event Monday morning at 10 am to view the crop damage to the peach industry caused by the long winter and a late frost. However, a California woman decided she would attend the event uninvited, and wearing a trench coat to boot on a warm sunny morning.

Her attendance drew the attention of SLED agents, law enforcement, Gov. Haley's staff and the property owner, Mr. Yonce. The woman, identified at Kate Michaela Sarna, 26, of Costa Mesa California, ignored requests by the property owner and a member of Gov. Haley's staff instructing her to leave the property. She ignored their requests.

An Edgefield County Sheriff's Deputy reiterated the previous requests and then escorted Sarna to her vehicle where her drivers license information and the rented car information was obtained. The 2013 Nissan she was driving was registered to Hertz Vehicles LLC in Denver, CO.

A copy of the incident report filed by the Sheriff's Office Monday morning was forwarded to SLED for further investigation.

The incident did not disrupt the Governor's visit. No charges were filed in the matter.
