Shooting Victim Expected to Recover, Investigation Continues

web posted May 8, 2014

JOHNSTON Johnston Police Chief Chris Aston said that the victim of a home invasion and attempted murder Tuesday night is expected to recover from his injuries. Aston said Investigator Robinson was expected to try to speak to the victim late Wednesday afternoon. "I know he was in surgery well into the wee hours of the morning, so we haven't had a chance to talk to him". It has been released that drugs were found inside the home, thus prompting police to not search the home until being granted a search warrant.

According to an incident report released Wednesday morning, the 9 mm Highpoint pistol was found partially tucked in the cushion on the couch. The victim stated that the person or persons dropped it in the hallway when the attack ended. There was a blood trail to and away from the couch as well as leading into two bedrooms. The serial number on the pistol came back as "not on file". Two shell casings, one brass and one silver, were found around the area of the bedroom door where the victim said he was sleeping at the time of the shooting.

The victim's wallet, containing over $300, was recovered as well as a baggie containing a large number of partially smoked "joints", a jar containing more suspected marijuana, a digital scale and two cell phones. All were seized as evidence.

Bullet fragments were also recovered in the bedroom where the victim said he was sleeping.

The victim told police officers who arrived on the scene just after the call that he did not know if there was more than one person involved.

No motive has been assigned to the shooting.

When arrested, the person or persons will most likely be charged with burglary in the first degree, attempted murder, possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime and others, depending on the outcome of the investigation.
