Judge falls victim to check fraud
web
posted May 15, 2008
JOHNSTON – Though everyday citizens often
find themselves victims of criminal activity, this time one of those
appointed to fulfill justice appears to have fallen into the victim
category. Any lawyer will tell a client the last thing they want to do
is make the judge mad, imagine what it must be like to tell your client
that the person they allegedly stole from is a judge.
According to a police report from the Johnston Police Department that
is what took place this week. Chief Magistrate Judge Davis Parkman lost
his checkbook over the weekend and by Monday morning a white female
allegedly cashed a check for $300 at his bank on Monday drafted against
his account.
The described forgery case is currently under investigation by the
Johnston Police Department and the identity of the woman is unknown at
this time.
The lost checkbook was found by a passerby on Roland Avenue on Monday
and it was discovered that two checks were missing, including the one
cashed reports indicate. There were no indications that the second
missing check was used.
