Wanted man eludes arrest, again

web posted May 22, 2007
JOHNSTON – Johnston Police are seeking the public’s help in finding a wanted man. Rico Antonio Norris, 25, has several outstanding narcotics warrants for his arrest since he fled a drug raid in late January of this year. A Johnston Police Officer on patrol spotted Mr. Norris walking on Sandra Drive Friday night and stopped his patrol car telling Mr. Norris he was “under arrest and to not move.” Norris took off running into a nearby wooded area and escaped. A search by Johnston Police and Sheriff’s Deputies failed to locate Mr. Norris.

Johnston Police Chief Chris Aston said that Mr. Norris could be hiding out in North Augusta and Johnston. “We’re getting in contact with them (NAPD) to try to apprehend him (Norris)". Chief Aston said the officer was just starting to exit his patrol car and did not have time to draw his taser from its holster before Mr. Norris ran. Mr. Norris now faces a charge of resisting arrest on top of the narcotics warrants Chief Aston said.

Rico Norris’ brother, Michael Deon Norris, 26, was arrested after a string was set up at the Johnston Post Office in early April. He is currently being held on a $100,000 bond for drug charges and a felony bench warrant at the Edgefield County Detention Center. The brothers both were able to escape arrest at the time of the January drug raid. A third man that also fled from the raid, Blake Marcell Clark, 18, of Johnston, was arrested later on March 3 on charges of Manufacture and or Distribution cocaine base drugs, 2nd offense and released on bond.

Chief Aston is asking for the public to help in apprehending Rico Norris. If you have any information on Mr. Norris’ whereabouts are see him you are asked to call the Johnston Police Department at 275-2488 or the Edgefield County Dispatch at 637-5337 or 278-1625. You do not need to reveal your identity to give information.
