One arrested, one sought, in strong-armed robbery web posted May 22, 2007 JOHNSTON – Johnston Police have arrested a Trenton man and are seeking another in connection to a strong-armed robbery and lynching that took place over the weekend. Crooze Watkins, 19, of Courtney Road, Trenton was taken into custody Monday morning and has been charged with lynching in the second degree and strong-armed robbery. Police are still seeking Maurice Lorenzo Culbreath, 21, also of Trenton in relation to the crime. The arrest stems from the report by a Johnston man telling police of Mr. Watkins and Mr. Clubreath “jumping” him and beating him with their fists while telling the victim he, “don’t mess with Ridge Road”. The man had visible injuries to his arm and neck and his clothing was torn. After allegedly beating the victim, Culbreath and Watkins are accused of reaching into the man’s pocket and taking $265 in cash before fleeing the area. Mr. Culbreath is described as a black male, 5 foot 11 inches tall, weighing approximately 175 pounds and has a scar on the right side of his face. Mr. Culbreath has had several brushed with law enforcement in the past, including a five month prison sentence in October of 2005 for resisting arrest. If you have any information on Mr. Culbreath’s whereabouts or see him you are asked to call the Johnston Police Department at 275-2488 or the Edgefield County Dispatch at 637-5337 or 278-1625. You do not need to reveal your identity to give information. Mr. Watkins is currently being held at the Edgefield County Detention Center on a $45,000 surety bond jail officials said Monday night.
