Scammer Continues to Prey on Edgefield County Women

web posted May 28, 2014

JOHNSTON A scammer that has targeted an elderly Edgefield woman has been reported trying to scam a Johnston woman out of her money claiming she had won $1.2 million from the Publishers Clearing House. The caller, using the same name again - Albert Williams - also called from the same phone number registered in Jamaica.

In the report filed Monday, the woman said the man instructed her to go to the Dollar Store and purchase a prepaid card and provided a PIN number for her to use. The woman told the deputy she suspected it was a scam and hung up the phone, only to have the man call back and make obscene comments to the woman.

Just last week we reported on a man using the same name and same phone number trying to scam an elderly Edgefield woman. She too wised up and disconnected the call and reported it to the Sheriff's Office.

The phone number to be aware of is 876-466-2103 and the man is using the name Albert Williams at this time. The name is fake and he could change it at any time.

If you see the phone number on your caller ID you should ignore the call. If you have elderly relatives you should make them aware and, if possible, block the phone number by their carrier.

If you do receive a call, you should report it to your local law enforcement agency.
