  Johnston Store site of Armed Robbery web posted May 29, 2008 JOHNSTON – Johnston Police and Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to an armed robbery at the Edgefield Fuel Convenience store on Lee Street late Wednesday night. When officers arrived just before midnight they saw the attendant “crying” on the phone. At first officers believed the two suspects might still be in the store, and began setting up a perimeter to block their escape. It was later learned the two men, described as black males with masks, dark clothing, and armed with a handgun, had already fled the scene. The two men fled the scene on foot and the Edgefield County Sheriff’s Dog Team was called to the scene in an effort to locate the suspects in addition to Johnston Police swarming the area. The two men were described as being dressed in blue jeans with one wearing a blue shirt and the second suspect wearing a blue stripped shirt. Both men were wearing black masks and at least one of the individuals had a black or dark colored gun. Video surveillance tapes from the store were in the process of being reviewed and no arrests were made prior to 2 am Thursday. The robbery is still under investigation. ©
