No Arrest in Home Invasion, Shooting

web posted June 2, 2014

JOHNSTON It has been just over three weeks since a 22-year-old Johnston man was shot in a home invasion the night of May 6 around 10:30 pm, but no arrest has been made as of this weekend. "We have some possible suspects," Johnston Police Chief Chris Aston said, but not enough evidence to make an arrest in the case. Chief Aston said the victim is cooperating but is giving limited details.

At this time it is still unclear if there was more than one person that entered the home just before shots rang out. The victim, who claimed he was asleep in his bedroom at the time, was shot twice before the person or persons fled the home, dropping the pistol on the floor in the hallway as they ran.

The pistol, a Highpoint 9 mm, found at the scene was checked by serial number but came back as no record found. Two spent shell casings were also located in the area of the bedroom the victim was in at the time of the shooting.

An unknown quantity of marijuana was recovered from the scene along with scales and the victim's wallet and $300 in cash. Chief Aston did not say if the victim has been charged in connection to the drugs at this time. All were seized as evidence in the case.

It is believed the victim's brother, who had gone to visit neighbors, had left the front door unlocked allowing the person(s) easy access inside the home. According to information released so far, it appears the shooting was the objective of the home invasion, not robbery as nothing was taken.

Edgefield Daily will follow the case and have an update as more information becomes available or there is an arrest in the case.
