Johnston Police question suspect after six burglaries in three days
web
posted June 3, 2009
JOHNSTON – Johnston Police are working six
burglaries that have taken place over the past three days but have a
suspect they were interviewing shortly after the last burglary on Hill
Drive Tuesday morning. Johnston Police Chief Chris Aston said Tuesday
as he arrived at the Police Department that a tip led them to a
15-year-old suspect. “We got a tip and we were able to identify some of
the stolen property,” Chief Aston said. He would not elaborate other
than to say that there is a possibility that the teen may be tied to
some of the recent burglaries in the area. “We won’t know until we talk
to him,” Aston said.
The Hill Drive burglary was reported Tuesday with a witness giving a
description of a suspect leaving the area around the home. That led
police to the suspect’s home where it is believed that at least one
item stolen in the Hill Drive burglar was recovered.
Chief Aston said it is his belief by what is being discovered that the
teen could be involved in at least two other burglaries that have taken
place in recent days.
Other burglaries included a home on Chinaberry Circle that found over
$500 in jewelry taken on Monday, along with that of a home of the 300
block of Brady Lane where a jewelry box was targeted but the burglar
left without taking anything leaving only $300 in damages from breaking
into the home.
On Sunday a home on the 700 block of Edisto Street was found to have a
door kicked in early Sunday afternoon but the owner could find nothing
missing. Damage to the door was estimated at $500.
On Saturday homeowners arrive to find the back door to their Heritage
Trace home “kicked in” but nothing missing on an initial inventory of
the home. Earlier a home on Cottonwood Lane was hit by burglars with
over $1,000 in jewelry taken after someone broke a glass door to gain
entry into the home.
