Thurmond FFA Farm Business Management Team Heads to National Finals for Second Year in a Row

web posted June 24, 2014

JOHNSTON – The Strom Thurmond FFA Chapter was named the State Champion Team at the annual South Carolina FFA Farm Business Management Career Development Event held at Clemson University on June 12, 2014 as part of the 87th annual South Carolina FFA State Convention. Members of the first place team included: Bailey Pedersen (Second Place Highest Individual), Brittany Hutchins, Lucky Bailey, and Hunter Herrin.

“The team really pulled together and put forth a tremendous amount of effort in practicing and preparing for this event” said Jeremy Brooks the teams coach and FFA adviser.

FFA teams from ten chapters across South Carolina participated in this year’s competition designed to provide the students an opportunity to display their agricultural knowledge and skills in the area of Farm Business Management.  The 40 students who participated in the event each completed a two hour written test which had sections on marketing, income analysis, financial planning, taxes, and general agricultural economics.

The team members will now work to prepare for the National Farm Business competition which will be held in Louisville KY in October.

For more information regarding the agriculture program at the Strom Thurmond Career and Technology Center, contact Darla Steele or Jeremy Brooks at the career center, (803) 275-1767 or visit the agriculture program website at www.stromthurmondffa.com.
