Johnston names new Police Chief web posted June 26, 2006 JOHNSTON – The Town of Johnston hired Edgefield County Sheriff’s Investigator David Chris Aston as the new Chief of Police for the Johnston Police Department on Thursday. “Mr. Aston will be an asset to our organization and to the citizens of Johnston,” Mayor Willie Campbell said in a press release issued Friday. “We look forward to his experience, knowledge, and guidance as we move forward with our department and its commitment to our citizens.” Reached by phone Friday, Chief Aston said he looks forward to assuming the role as Chief. “I think it’s important to let the citizens and business owners know I plan to have a close working relationship between them and the department,” Chief Aston said. Chief Aston said he has been in law enforcement since 1992 when he began his career as an officer in Johnston. In 1995 he transferred to the Saluda County Sheriff’s Office until he took a position with the Edgefield County Sheriff’s Office in 1997. Chief Aston said his most memorable case came in 1994 when he was able to assist other agencies in recovering over $100,000 of stolen goods in Edgefield County, “A lot of it was things that had sentimental value to the victims, things that just couldn’t be replaced. That meant a lot to me,” he said. The Johnston Police Department has “good, quality officers” and the department will be able to “provide adequate protection for the citizens” at the present staffing levels Chief Aston said. The new chief will assume the leadership role the second week of July. For
