Johnston man robbed of $19,000 cash

Edgefielddaily.com
web posted June 28, 2005

A Johnston man was robbed yesterday of over $19,000 in cash that he kept in a plastic bag hidden behind a water heater. According to information gathered by Edgefield Daily.com the man’s part-time live-in girlfriend, who is said to be much younger than he, asked for ride to a location and while the man went to get his keys and wallet she allegedly took the money.

The man, after returning from dropping the girlfriend off, got suspicious of why she was in the area where the money was when he came back in the room. When he checked on the money he discovered the money was missing. No one else had been in the house since the last time he saw the money sources said.

Both Edgefield County Sheriff’s Deputies and Johnston Police were searching for the woman within minutes to no avail. Paperwork for a warrant for her arrest was said to be in the works Monday morning. Investigators said she is well known to locals having moved to the area some 15 years ago from Georgia. She is also known to Edgefield County Law Enforcement having been arrested in the county in the recent past.

Until warrants are issued Edgefield Daily.com will not disclose parties by name, however we will post more information including names, the accused’s picture and description the time warrant or warrants are issued. Other sources who knew of the woman said she allegedly has a drug problem and that they did not expect the police would ever recover the money even if they find her. “She’ll get high and someone will steal it from her,” said one we spoke with.

Edgefield Daily.com will have updates as they become available and will continue to be Edgefield County’s number one source for information on “Edgefield County as it happens.”
