Traffic stops result in drug arrests web posted June 30, 2006 JOHNSTON – Two traffic stops have resulted in the drivers being arrested for possession of marijuana. On Tuesday Johnston Police spotted a car running the stop sign at Addison Street and Bland Avenue around 1:50 am. The officer got behind the man and conducted a traffic stop on Aiken Avenue. As he approached the car, he smelled a strong odor of alcohol coming from inside. Talking to the drive the officer asked for permission to search the car and the owner gave his consent. During the sear the officer found a “green plant like material believed to be marijuana,” and an open beer under the driver’s seat. At that time Troy Shondell Hill, 29, of Shepard Drive in Johnston, was placed under arrest for disregarding a stop sign, seatbelt violation, open container of beer, simple possession of marijuana, and no proof of ownership. On Wednesday morning around 2:30 am a Johnston Police Officer noticed a car driving east on Highway 23 in the Town Limits with a non-working tag light. The officer conducted a traffic stop and asked the driver for his driver’s license. While speaking with the driver the officer asked for permission to search the vehicle and the driver refused. At that time police reports indicate the officer called for an Edgefield County Deputy to respond with a K-9. After arriving on the scene the drug dog “hit on the car indicating there was drugs in the car. The officer then searched the car and found what appeared to be marijuana. Orlando A. Martin, 21, of Driftwood Lane in Johnston was placed under arrest for simple possession of marijuana. For
