Teen Arrested for Defending Mother During Attack

web posted July 22, 2014

JOHNSTON A 15-year-old Johnston teen was arrested after witnessing his mother being choked by a 54-year-old man at the family home late Thursday night. The teen ran up to the man and hit him in the head with a brick, also hitting his arm, to get the man off of his mother. Another woman, identified as Felisha Bletcher, 37, was also arrested for allegedly attacking the man.

According to an incident report released on Monday, the teen's mother told Johnston Police officers that she saw Bletcher and the man arguing at the "bottom of the yard" when the man pushed Bletcher over a table. It was then the mother yelled at the man and told him to come inside the home and get his belonging and leave.

The mother told police when the man came to the door he slammer the door in her face and then began choking her. That is when her son approached and hit him with the brick to stop the attack.

The man left the scene and called 911 to report his being attacked by Bletcher and the teen. He claimed Bletcher hit him with glass bottles and the teen hit him with the brick.

When the first officer arrived to meet the man on the corner of Edisto Street and Railroad Avenue around 7 pm, EMS was called due to the man bleeding heavily from an injury to his head and forearm. The man claimed he was attacked by the teen and Ms. Bletcher, "for no reason". He was transported to the Edgefield County Emergency room and received 7 staples to his head injury and 6 stitches to the cut on his arm and was later released, the incident report states.

After speaking to all parties involved, the 15-year-old was arrested, as well as Ms. Bletcher, on a charge of assault and battery in the second degree. Bletcher was booked into custody at the Edgefield County Detention Center. The report did not state if the teen was transported to DJJ for housing. Due to his age, his identity has not been released.

There was no mention of charges against the man and his name has not appeared in bookings of the Detention Center as of Monday. The report did not indicate that any charges against the man were pending. The charges appear to be filed due to the severity of the injuries the man received.

There was no mention of injuries to the teen's mother.
