ATM Giveth, ATM Taketh Away

web posted July 23, 2014

JOHNSTON A Johnston woman on her way to Church on Sunday morning stopped by her bank to take out $120 for her tithes from the ATM outside the bank. After inserting her card and PIN the machine dispensed the $120, then retracted the money back into the machine and she called Johnston Police.

The woman told the officer she could see the money being dispensed, but was unable to retrieve it from the dispenser. Her receipt showed where $120 had been debited from her account, plus a $3 usage fee and her remaining balance. The officer told the woman to contact her bank to see if her account had actually been debited, which it had.

The officer instructed the woman to contact her bank the following morning to address the situation, which is a civil matter between her and her bank.
