Johnston Man Charged in Alleged Attack of Teen's Mother

web posted July 23, 2014

JOHNSTON The man at the center of a disturbance that led to a woman's teenage son and another woman being arrested for allegedly protecting her from being choked has been charged in the incident, interim Johnston Police Chief Lamaz Robinson said Tuesday. Lester Merriweather, 54, of Addison Street in Johnston, was charged with assault and battery in the third degree, but was not booked into custody due to his injuries.

Chief Robinson did not elaborate on the arrests other than to say that all parties involved were charged.

As Edgefield Daily reported, Merriweather was the unnamed man that was allegedly choking the 15-year-old teen's mother when the teen hit Merriweather with a brick. According to the report, Merriwether is said to have assaulted Felisha Bletcher, 37, before turning his attention on the boy's mother.

Bletcher and the teen were arrested on the scene and charged with assault and battery in the second degree.
