Burglars Ransack Home, Outbuildings, RV During Theft

web posted July 28, 2014

JOHNSTON A family member arriving at their property on the 1500 block of Mt. Calvary Road Thursday morning found the home, outbuildings and two RV's parked outside broken into. A very short time after arriving the man called 911 around 8:30 am to report the crime. An investigator responded to the scene to process the home, buildings and RV's for evidence and was able to recover fingerprints.

According to an incident report, the thieves broke into the house and ransacked it while looking for items to steal. They continued to break into two sheds and one of the two RV's parked behind the house. An attempt to break into the second RV failed to gain entry, the report stated.

Reported stolen from inside the home includes a .22 caliber rifle, a 16 gauge pump shotgun and pure silver utensils. The guns were valued at $200 a piece. The value of the silver utensils was unknown.

Stolen from the sheds that were broken into were keys to two ATV's, two deer stands, a rototiller, an air compressor and assorted tools, collectively valued at $1,400.

Taken from the RV was an air compressor and a tool box with tools valued at $600. Damage to the door was listed at $1,000. The damage to the door of the second RV which no entry was gained was placed at $300.

Once the scene had been processed the owners were allowed to reenter the home to begin the cleanup. They were informed to contact the investigator if they discover any additional items missing while taking an inventory of the home.

According to the report, the family had not been at the home since Sunday, July 20, until they returned on Thursday.

The case remains under investigation.
