  Few new details in armed robbery of Johnston residents web posted August 16, 2008 JOHNSTON – Johnston Police are still investigating Thursday’s late night armed robbery of an Academy Street family without much new information available. The local restaurant owners arrived earlier at their home when the man went outside and was approached by three black males, who ordered him back inside the home at gunpoint around 10:38 pm. Once inside of the home the three robbers stole an undisclosed amount of cash and fled the area on foot. None of the family members were injured in the robbery, although they were shaken by the incident. Johnston and Edgefield Police along with Sheriff’s Deputies and State Troopers converged on the area in an attempt to prevent the three men, described as young males, possibly teens, from escaping. All three were said to be wearing dark clothing and covered their faces during the robbery. They were last seen running from the home towards Rowland Avenue The 911 call came in to dispatchers at 10:41 pm Thursday night and the search continued until almost 1:30 am Friday morning, but the three suspects were never located. The Sheriff’s Bloodhound Team was able to track the three but lost the trail later. It is unknown if the three had a car parked in the area. ©
