Wanted man surrenders to Police Chief web posted August 23, 2006 Below: Cedric Breon Culbreath , 18 JOHNSTON – A man
wanted in connection to a July 27 burglary
at the
Three Way Food Store on Lee Street, Johnston, has turned himself into
police on Monday. Johnston Police Chief Chris Aston took Cedric Breon
Culbreath, 18, of Johnston, into custody after receiving a phone call.
“I received a call (Monday) afternoon informing me he was willing to
turn himself in,” Chief Aston said, “So I rode over an took him into
custody.” Chief Aston said Mr. Culbreath was running out of places to
hide.Mr. Culbreath has been charged with second degree burglary and grand larceny. He is presently being held at the Edgefield County Detention Center on a total of $75,000 in bonds. Authorities say they do not expect Mr. Culbreath to be going anywhere soon. Two women, Fansita Lavella Nicholson, 18, of Bland Avenue, in Johnston and Shernise Bledsoe, 19, of Peen Creek Road, Saluda has also been charged in the case. They were taken into custody on August 1. Johnston Police also went to serve an arrest warrant on Mr. Culbreath Tuesday, August 1. When they arrived at the home, an officer went to the back of the home in case Mr. Culbreath tried to flee the home. However, Mr. Culbreath was already in the back yard and when the officer approached he fled. He remained on the lam until Monday. Chief Aston said he attributed the surrender to the hard work of his officers. “(Mr. Culbreath) knew we had him hemmed in to about a block and a half area,” Chief Aston said. “He knew if he stepped out of that area he’d be seen and arrested.” Family members finally convinced Mr. Culbreath to surrender. Chief Aston also said none of the scratch off lottery tickets taken in the alleged crime have surfaced. When asked if Mr. Culbreath was the ring leader in the burglary Chief Aston said, "Right now it appears that way, but it's still too early to say." For
