Pedestrian becomes fifth fatality on Edgefield County Roads Saturday
morning
web
posted August 22, 2008
JOHNSTON – Edgefield County suffered its
fifth traffic fatality early Saturday morning when a pedestrian was
struck and killed by a motorist on McCreight Road near Singing Tree
Lane.
The report came in to 911 dispatchers just after 2 am and a Johnston
Police Officer arrived on the scene minutes later and called for
Edgefield County Coroner Thurmond Burnett to be notified.
According to reports from the scene, the 47-year-old Trenton woman was
walking on McCrieght Road towards Johnston when the driver of a white
Chevrolet Camaro left the edge of the roadway and struck the woman,
killing her instantly.
The unidentified driver was arrested on the scene by the South Carolina
Highway Patrol and taken to the Edgefield County Hospital. No jail
records were available since the driver had not been booked into the
Detention Center by 4 am Saturday.
Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash.
EdgefieldDaily.com will have a update on the story Saturday afternoon
as more information and the identity of the driver and the deceased
woman are made available.
