JOHNSTON – A
Johnston man has been charged
with DUI after hitting Ora Mae Coleman, 47, of Trenton as she walked
along McCrieght Road around 2 am Saturday morning. Daniel Robert
Fraley, 23,
was driving a white Chevy Camaro that was said to have drifted off the
road a short distance before striking Ms. Coleman, killing her
instantly. Both were heading towards Johnston at the time of the crash.
Mr. Fraley was arrested at the scene and transported to the Edgefield
County Hospital before being booked into the Edgefield County Detention
Center later in the morning. According to jail records, the South
Carolina High Patrol has charged him with DUI. He is currently awaiting
a bond hearing.
The death is still under
investigation.
Edgefield County Coroner Thurmond Burnett said Ms. Coleman, of Town
Tree Lane, Trenton, died from, “severe head and body trauma.” Amos and
Sons Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
This marks the fifth fatality on Edgefield County roads this year and
the second this month.
